Famous people who born in Shivamogga (All are not included):

Kuppalli Venkatappa Puttappa (Kuvempu): (29 December 1904 – 11 November 1994) who born in Kuppalli, Thirthahalli. He was the first Kannada writer to be by decorated with the Jnapitha Award (1967. He also got Padma Bhushana (1958), Padma Vibhushana (1988), Karnataka Ratna (1992).




Guggari Shanthaveerappa Shivarudrappa (G.S. Shivarudrappa): (7 February 1926 – 23 December 2013) who born in Shikaripura. He was an Indian Kannada Poet, writer and researcher, who was awarded Rashtrakavi (Poet Literature) by Government of Karnataka




Udupi Rajagopalacharya Ananthamurthy (U. R. Ananthamurthy): (21 December 1932 – 22 August 2014) who born in Melige village in Thirthahalli Taluk. He received Jnanapitha Award (1994), Padma Bhushana (1998).




Kuppali Puttappa Poornachandra Tejaswi (Poornachandra Tejaswi): (8 September 1938 – 5 April 2007) who was the son of Kuvempu, He was a prominent Indian writer and novelist in Kannada, also  he worked as a photographer, publisher, painter, naturalist, and environmentalist. He received Sahitya Academy Award (1987), Karnataka Sahitya Academy Honorary Award for Lifetime Achivement (1985), Pampa Award (2001)
